Foliage in Acadia National Park
USA TODAY lists Acadia among "10 great places to peep at the peak foliage." "People don't think of the coast as a good foliage spot, but it's just as beautiful. The scarlets and golds contrast with the blue of the Atlantic. And the colors appear later and last longer because the ocean has a moderating influence. For a spectacular vista, we recommend heading to the summit of the park's Cadillac Mountain, the highest point along the Atlantic. Peak season usually starts in mid-October." USA TODAY, Sept. 14, 2007
Sailing Cruises: Margaret Todd
The new 151 ft. Margaret Todd
is the first 4-masted schooner to work New England waters in over half a century. Enjoy a majestic sail among the islands of Frenchman Bay, view Acadia National Park from the sea, watch lobstermen hauling their traps, or just relax on spacious decks. The Margaret Todd leaves from the Bar Harbor Inn Pier.

Whale Watching: Friendship V
No visit to Bar Harbor is complete until you've seen the majestic beauty of some of the world's largest mammals, the great whales. These cruises will take you 20 miles out to sea where humpback, finback, right and Minke whiles are commonly found. During the ride to the feeding grounds of these amazing animals, an experienced naturalist will provide information and answer questions on a variety of seabirds, seals, porpoises, and, of course, whales.
Built in 1996, the Friendship V was designed specifically for whale watching in the Gulf of Maine. She is 112' long and 31' wide, and her two hulls assure you of a smooth, stable ride with less rocking. Three outside viewing decks have more viewing room than any other boat. The captains keep in touch with off-shore fishermen for recent sightings.
So as you are packing for
your stay at the Bar Harbor
Hotel ~ Bluenose Inn, don't
forget some warm clothes,
your binoculars, and a camera
so you can capture the magnificent
